Last week we published the first in a series of articles that look at how stretch tent operators are pushing the boundaries with extraordinary rigging configurations, using RHI-manufactured structures.

This week’s focus is another two examples of stretch tent mega structures, this time using Truss Systems. Each setup came with its own set of challenges, and was pulled off with dramatic results.

Once again we must emphasis that extreme rigging is only advised for setups in areas with zero wind, ideal weather conditions and by highly experienced riggers.

Red Bull “LOVE BOX”, United Kingdom: 2 000m²

Our most radical example of extreme rigging to date. Here 4m x 25m x 20m tents are linked into a single king pole system using Truss to create a 2 000m² structure supported by one pole, thus halving the total central pole requirements in this king daddy of stretch tent megastructures.

This is not the first time (and it won’t be the last!) that RHI-manufactured stretch tents contribute to the temporary structures that form part of radical Red Bull-sponsored events, both in music and extreme sports arenas around the world.

Chevron Refinery (Cape Town) storage tank renovations: 800m²

While this rig might look simple at face value, the logistics of getting the rigging equipment into Chevron’s storage tanks, and the undefined tie off points, made this an extremely challenging rig.

The Venturi effect of being inside a tank was intense, emphasised by extreme wind speeds. Rigging teams in full safety gear were on call 24/7 to ensure the structures were safe to work under.

We congratulate our experienced stretch tent operators and partners for their vision and expertise in achieving these exceptional rigging configurations.

Safety is a fundamental priority with any tent setup, and as a stretch tent manufacturer with years of experience, we must bring to your attention that we do not promote or encourage that rigging crews new to the stretch tent business attempt such large setups.
